The Other Front: Reformers File FEC Rulemaking Petition On Independent Expenditure Reporting

The campaign finance reform community made their move last week to attack the political activities of the critics of President Obama and Congressional Democrats by filing a federal lawsuit against the Federal Election Commission (“FEC”) regarding the disclosure requirements for electioneering communications and the President’s draft executive order requiring the disclosure of political contributions by federal government contractors.  The third prong in this scheme, is a petition filed with the FEC by the reformers seeking increased disclosure for independent expenditures.  The petition can be found here along with the press release announcing the federal court case.
