“FEC Still Hasn’t Issued New Campaign Spending Rules”

The Washington Post offers this report on the Federal Election Commission’s (“FEC”) failure to update its regulations more than one year after the United States Supreme Court issued its Citizens United decision.

The time has come for the FEC to update its regulations by repealing the ones struck by the Court on constitutional grounds.  If the reform groups and some Commissioners want to promulgate new rules not required by the Court’s decision such as new, onerous reporting obligations, such issues should be taken up in a separate, stand alone rulemaking.
