Express Advocacy – Political Law News Summary

The Washington Post published a story about the regulated community reaction to the failure of the U.S. Supreme Court to release an opinion this week in the Citizens United v. FEC case.

The Hill reports that Republicans use social media media more than Democrats according to a recently released study.

Rick Hasen published an interesting post on Election Law Blog noting a link between the Prop. 8 case and Citizens United.  He notes that the U.S. Supreme Court relies on briefs submitted in the Citizens United case in the opinion issued in the Prop. 8 case.  An interesting catch.

ABC News published an article profiling one of the lawyers who initially represented Citizens United in the case pending before the U.S. Supreme Court and examines the sources of support for many of his cases challenging campaign finance laws on constitutional grounds.  When will the press apply the same scrutiny to the soft money nonprofits that employ lobbyists pushing laws and policies limiting political speech?
